September & Beyond

Good afternoon.

Wow, September already? Summer is almost over, well in most places. In Southern Cali summer is over around October or so, maybe even November. Just depends on how mother nature is feeling. Anywho.....

Last month was sort of busy. I planned an awesome birthday bash for my best friend that was AMAZING. Truly a night to remember, the highlight of my summer. Got plenty of writing done too and In between that I also managed to finish up DAYDREAMER.

Rolando Molina as DAYDREAMER.
What a journey this has been. At one point I had a good friend of mine, Cuojoe, cut a version of it. It was, I think the complete opposite of what I intended. But it allowed me to finish some key scenes I was stuck on. In the end I ended up using a very cool opening sequence he made along with some additional edits.

I just looked it over last night and I have to say I am very proud of it. It's simple, to the point and flows effortlessly. Another thing I realized (actually realized some months ago), DAYDREAMER is very much related to another project of mine: "Visions".  I consider it a companion piece, a sort of unofficial sequel. Both of them involve a protagonist not  knowing what's real and what's not. Although they deal with completely different situations they are definitely related in some way.

What I find myself thinking now is, is it possible or even necessary to do another short in the same vein? Maybe, I don't know. If something comes along, sure, but for now no. I'll just add DAYDREAMER to my collection of experimental films, which brings me to my next point.

Freaky, huh?
Visions, Eventuality and now DAYDREAMER. These 3 are a part of a collection of experimental work that I plan to release together, sometime in the near future. For those that don't know exactly what experimental is or are thinking "you mean some weird artsy, fartsy shit? Yes & No. It's work that strays from the typical way a film is made. You break rules, you do things that are usually a DON'T in filmmaking. You express yourself and tell an interesting and sometimes weird story in your own unique way. It's lots of fun, but not EVERY story can be told this way. For these ideas though, it's the only way I could.

It's funny. I have had people, even friends watch some of my experimental stuff and come out scratching their heads. When I break it down and fill in the gaps they ask "why didn't you just show that?" I kindly respond "what's the fun in that?" The key word is experiment, you are taking a chance, your attempting to express yourself in a completely new way. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Just depends on how you look at it.

Besides all that I have the pleasure of announcing another project I've been secretly working on. "Dirty 30". The first collaboration between SOCONFILMS & DAGDAFILM. It's done, all we have to worry about now is getting it on imdb and possibly into some film festivals. Here is a link with more info and a teaser trailer.

A So.Da. Films Joint.
Still writing and planning. My next short I hope will begin shooting in late spring of 2012. I have a few other things on the horizon, but I will announce them all in due time. For now I just plan to write and update this site as much as I can. These last few months of the year for me are crucial, I already know a dramatic change or rather transition is coming and I'm oh so ready for it.

Until next time. Peace.
