March Updates

Pre-Production for my next short "Ghost Story" is underway, I finally have my lead. Joining the cast alongside Robert Zepeda is Ronnie Alvarez. He will be playing the role of GUS and Robert will play FRANK. I am very excited to have the cast finally set, now all that's left is planning the day of the shoot and setting a date. In the next few months I will be creating concept artwork, storyboards and of course some promotional items such as posters and an eventual teaser trailer. My ideal shoot date will be around mid-May to mid-June. Still haven't figured out an exact date, but I will most certainly announce it when I have one. In the next few weeks I will be opening a fan page where I will update everyone on the production. In all honesty this is a project that I'm very excited for. Compared to my other work, which are mostly experimental, this will be a straight forward narrative, a "throwback" horror flick that yes I am confident that most of you will enjoy. A modern day ghost story....literally.  Stay tuned for more info.

In between all that I am prepping my first ever collaboration with a filmmaker friend of mine. Brian "Cuojoe" Tolbert of DAGDAFILM and I have written a script together. It was written in about a week, it's 32 pages and it's already been cast. It will be shot in the DOGME95 style, but not abiding by every single rule within it. We are looking to shoot around April. More info soon, including the title, premise and casting bits.

Besides those two upcoming projects I will be very, very busy in the coming months. Right now I am creating a Bat-Mitzvah montage, then in April I will be shooting said Bat-Mitzvah and than editing it. Also I have an actor reel in the works, once done you'll know for who, I'm not one to boast.....seriously.

DAYDREAMER is nearly complete, I finally found my groove. For those who know me either personally or through my blog you know that sometimes it takes me a minute (so to speak) to finish a short I've made. It's the experimental nature of the ones I've been doing lately. Most times I let it sit and won't even edit for weeks, then when inspiration hits I dive in and figure out what was "missing" all along. It's part of the creative process, I never rush anything and I feel that it does show in the end product. That's the beauty of editing as well, you can have 5 different versions of something and they all give a unique and sometimes odd perspective of the same thing, it's endless in a way. Eventuality is one such example, the first cut I did was too obvious, it spoon fed every little detail to the audience and explained why everything happened, it was too straightforward. The second cut and the one I picked as the definitive cut was surreal, creepy and in the end you had a lot of questions. I even had my actors asking me, so what did this mean and why did you do that instead of this and so fourth. Isn't that the reaction you would want? You want people to question your work, to be intrigued by the complexity, the mystery behind it. It gets everyone thinking, analyzing every aspect of it and that's what makes it that much better. OK I ranted again, forgive me I do that sometimes. Until next time, have a great week.

Oh and to the people of Japan God bless you and may he watch over you in these difficult times. To my brother from another mother Marcus, be safe out there kid! I love you....Peace.
